1st stop: Norway

I left Newark, NJ at 8pm Friday night and arrived in Oslo, Norway this morning (Sat) a little after 9am.  Our Lindblad/National Geographic group went on a bus tour of Oslo and I’ve included a few pictures from the bus.  You will notice the gray skies and rain.  The sun blessed us in the afternoon for some walking throughout downtown Oslo.  Though only in Norway for a day, we managed to hear Aung San Suu Kyi speak to an outdoor crowd in the plaza prior to her Nobel Peace Prize ceremony and lecture.  She was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize 20 years ago, but has been under house arrest in Burma since that time and so never traveled to Norway for the ceremony.  <http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-18454243>

I’ll be up bright and early tomorrow morning to catch a charter flight to Svalbard—the Arctic!!!  We will check out Longyearbyen for lunch and sightseeing before embarking on our adventure aboard the National Geographic Explorer.  Right now I need to sleep as I have only slept a couple of hours on the plane since getting up in Minot at 4:30am Friday.  I hope to have internet on board the ship so I can post more.  I can't wait to see the ice and some wildlife.
